Will They Matter?
Minutes before taking our last final breath
Will they matter as we near our death
The items we bought, the things that we owned
Material possessions bought with cash or with loans
Memories of mobile phones or the biggest TV
Or the handbag adorning the label Gucci
The fastest computer, or the latest X-Box
The smartest of suits, the poshest of frocks.
The silver, the gold that decorated your being
The biggest house with the highest of ceilings
The newest car that once filled you with pride
The expensive racing bike that you once used to ride.
Will you remember how Alexa made you feel
The conversations you had that seemed so real
Did you relationship with her fill you with joy
Alongside memories of gadgets and toys?
Will these things matter as we come to the end?
As we reflect on our years, and how they were spent
Will you have spent more money or spent more time
Doing the things that made you feel truly alive?
Because all that really matters is the love that you shared
The relationships you had, the way that you cared
The fun, the laughter, the tears, the smiles
All these things make a life worthwhile
Spend more time with people, less money on possessions
Don’t let stuff and things become your obsessions
Prioritise loving, laughing and living
Fun and adventure, and a life full of giving.
